ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court (SC) has fixed the federal government’s plea seeking an extension in the inquiry commission’s deadline that is probing the Faizabad sit-in, for next week.

The federal government had earlier filed a petition for an extension in the 'Faizabad sit-in' commission report’s deadline.
The petition stated that the commission cannot prepare and submit the final report within the stipulated time period.

In November of last year, the federal government formed a three-member commission to investigate the sit-in led by the late Khadim Hussain Rizvi-led Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), aiming to identify those who planned, financed, and supported the event that disrupted lives in Rawalpindi and Islamabad in November 2017.
The commission formed to probe the Faizabad sit-in has summoned PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, who was serving as the Punjab chief minister at that time, along with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ahsan Iqbal, who was part of his cabinet as the interior minister.

The committee has also summoned Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, the former DG Counter Intelligence in the ISI, who has submitted a written response to the inquiry commission on Jan 5.
